Deep Coral Reef – Original Underwater Oil Painting

Deep Coral Reef by Olga Nikitina captures the mysterious beauty, movement and vibrant energy of the underwater world. Layers of deep ocean blues, turquoise, emerald green and vivid accents of yellow and red create an expressive underwater landscape inspired by marine life and the rich colours of coral reefs.

This original oil painting was created during a scuba diving session at a depth of 15.3 metres, with 55 minutes spent painting underwater. Underwater painting is a fascinating and rapidly growing direction in contemporary art, offering a unique creative experience. The feeling of weightlessness, altered colour perception, shifting light and the sensation of entering another dimension all influence the artistic process.

Olga’s approach is intuitive and emotional, capturing the impressions of a particular moment beneath the surface. Using a palette knife and expressive impasto technique, she creates rich textures and dynamic strokes that bring movement, depth and energy to the composition.

One of the most fascinating aspects of underwater painting is the difference in colour perception beneath the surface, as water absorbs light at different wavelengths. This makes every underwater artwork a unique discovery when it returns to daylight.

An expressive piece of original ocean art for collectors who appreciate contemporary marine art, abstract seascapes and the extraordinary beauty of the underwater world.
