Art fairs offer a unique opportunity to connect artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts in a shared appreciation of creativity. This year, I was delighted to participate in Art in the Country 2026, one of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier annual art exhibitions, held from 28–31 May 2026 at the beautiful Harrington House in Hilton, South Africa.

Art in the Country Art fair in South Africa

Bringing together nearly 70 artists from across the country, the exhibition has grown into an important event on the regional art calendar, attracting collectors, galleries, and visitors who are passionate about supporting original South African art.

Introducing My New Sardine Run Collection

For this exhibition, I presented a brand-new series of oil paintings inspired by one of the world’s most extraordinary marine spectacles — the Sardine Run along South Africa’s Wild Coast.

As an artist deeply inspired by the ocean, I wanted to capture the movement, energy, and drama of billions of sardines migrating through the waters while dolphins, sharks, whales, and seabirds gather to participate in this remarkable natural event.

Created with expressive palette knife work, vibrant colours, and rich textures, the collection reflects my personal experiences observing and painting the ocean’s ever-changing rhythms.

A Successful and Inspiring Exhibition

Art in the Country 2026 exceeded my expectations in every way. Throughout the four-day event, I received wonderful feedback from visitors, collectors, and fellow artists who connected with the energy and story behind the Sardine Run series.

Several artworks found new homes during the exhibition, making the event both creatively and commercially successful. Beyond the sales, it was incredibly rewarding to engage in meaningful conversations with people who share a passion for art, nature, travel, and marine conservation.

The positive response to the collection confirmed that the Sardine Run continues to inspire and fascinate audiences far beyond the diving community.

The Importance of Art Fairs

Participating in exhibitions like Art in the Country is about much more than displaying artwork. These events create opportunities to build relationships, exchange ideas, discover new perspectives, and connect directly with collectors.

I met many interesting people throughout the weekend—from first-time art buyers to seasoned collectors, fellow creatives, and visitors simply looking to be inspired. These conversations often become one of the most valuable parts of the exhibition experience.

Looking Forward

I would like to thank the organisers, sponsors, volunteers, fellow artists, and everyone who visited the exhibition and supported my work.

The success of Art in the Country 2026 has motivated me to continue developing my ocean-inspired collections and exploring new artistic interpretations of South Africa’s incredible marine world.

If you would like to learn more about my work or view available paintings from the Sardine Run collection, please explore the galleries on Impasto Painting and follow my ongoing artistic journey beneath and beyond the ocean’s surface.

Art has the power to connect us to places, experiences, and emotions. I am grateful to everyone who shared this journey with me at Art in the Country 2026.
